MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
A Message from the Director,
I grew up in a house where both my parents had PhDs in Mathematics. You'd think that would mean a childhood of drills and worksheets. It was the opposite. Dinner-table conversations were full of "but why does that work?" and nobody was ever told to just accept an answer. I didn't realise it then, but I was being taught that learning is something you do, not something that is done to you. That belief is the reason BM Concept School exists the way it does.
My own education took me from Delhi to Surat, and at seventeen, to Boston University, where I studied Economics and Mathematics. Living in a city with classmates from forty countries taught me something no textbook had: the children who thrived weren't the ones who knew the most. They were the ones who could ask a good question, sit with an unfamiliar idea, and work alongside someone who saw the world differently. That is what international mindedness really means, and I believe it has to be planted early, long before a child ever boards a flight.
That is why we chose the IB Primary Years Programme, and why I am so proud that BM Concept School is Vesu's first IB PYP candidate school. In our classrooms, a unit on water isn't a chapter to be memorised; it becomes an inquiry into where our city's water comes from, who doesn't have enough of it, and what a seven-year-old might do about that. Our children learn to read and count and write beautifully, but they also learn to listen, to care, to disagree kindly, and to take responsibility for their choices. Those are the things I want them to carry with them at twelve, at twenty, and at fifty.
I have always loved being around young children. There is nothing like watching a five-year-old discover something for the first time and immediately want to tell everyone about it. Our job as educators is to protect that spark, and to give it a direction.
